When:
27 May 2009 - 28 May 2009
Where:
Melia Bali Villas and Spa Resort - Bali
Category:
Climate Change & Forestry

Description

Projects to test new mechanisms for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) are cropping up worldwide. But in many countries that are planning to implement such mechanisms and cannot control illegal logging, REDD plans in practice could falter.

The Asia Forest Partnership (AFP) Dialogue will examine links between mechanisms to compensate countries for reducing deforestation and forest degradation, and efforts to combat illegal logging and the associated timber trade.

The two-day event will provide an opportunity for the many stakeholders in tropical forests to share information, to establish partnerships and to propose recommendations to policymakers.

Agenda

27 May:

  • Steering Committee Meeting
  • AFP Partners Forum

28-29 May: AFP Dialogue (Open Forum)

The outcomes of the dialogue will be shared with international processes related to REDD, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the UN Forum on Forests.

Hosted by the Government of Indonesia in collaboration with CIFOR,
with financial contribution from government of Japan and Switzerland
